How To Save Big Brother US

4thApr 30, 2018 by MJFJUNE
I got bored so I typed up ways I think they can make Big Brother US better since it's lost its touch in ways. Let me know what you think PLEASE. Anything I missed? Anything you disagree with?

1) Less twists, perhaps a back to basic season?
I think it's become very clear in the last few seasons that the twists have become overwhelming. What makes them worst is that most are either idiotic (Gift Bags, new Battle Back format, Battle Of The Block, etc) or flop (tree of temptation, round trip, America choosing a veto, returnee(s), etc). They need to keep it to 1 or 2 minor twists but a back to basics Season would be best like BB10.

2) More diverse casting choices
It's become clear that the casting crew are looking for generic eye candy and nerds to fill their slots. We're lucky if we get more than 2 POC and 1 person over 40 (hell, even 35 sometimes). This makes them easy targets because they're the easy minority and that's exactly what has happened. Maybe even cast MORE people than usual...I'd be down for a 20 person season tbh

3) Stop pushing the showmance agenda
Jessica & Cody, Mark, & Elena, Matt & Raven, Paul & Christmas, Paul & Production. ALL those showmance were in ONE season. They were also all forced too with most of the edits going towards that. It's too much and it's too cringe. Like I said, that was just one season (BB19), we could make a LIST of showmances in the past 4 seasons

4) Finish more HOHs on live TV
This may be a minor nitpick and I get they do this to promote the live feeds BUT I think the regular tv audience deserves to see a competition play out on TV. Don't say they don't have time because they literally send half an hour DRAGGING the eviction out. There's time.

5) No returnees
Look, I want a second All Stars season just as much as the next guy but with that being said I don't want returnees every damn season because the gameplay ends up revolving around them. #BB19 honestly would've been a GREAT season if Paul did not show up, mark my words.

6) Forces reactions in the DR
This speaks for itself but it's clear production asks the houseguests to amp up DRs and literally it never works out. They literally scream and I hate to lower my TV And cringe. Just be natural.

7) Repetition
So this kinda falls under #6 and this is maybe a minor nitpick but...you know how during HOH comps they have the host read the rules and then when it starts they have another houseguest repeat the rules in the DR? Stop That.

8) Don't shy away from controversy
There's been some VERY controversial moments on the live feeds through the last few seasons. From Frankie suggesting that Cody should sexually assault Victoria to Paul wanting to instigate Dominique by wearing blackface to the entire house bullying Jess & Cody (that's what happened don't @ me). It's 2018, we can't just turn a blind eye to these things and they can use it as a learning lesson like #Survivor did with the whole Zeke/Varner situation.

I agree with everything you said, I would also add to #2 that they should cast people THAT WANT TO WIN. I know it may sound daft, but can you actually imagine if they casted 16 people that really wanted to PLAY? That's literally all I want. I understand casting 16 super fans may not be the best idea, but they don't have to be. Just 16 individuals that are going to fight to win and play for themselves, I believe it would make the seasons much less predictable and more interesting to watch.

Also they need to stop with the rigging. It's a bore, it's a joke and it's just frustrating. Stop interfering with dumb ass twists and let the players do whatever they want. If a fan favourite is evicted, who cares? At least it would give others a chance at air time rather than the same people being forced down our throats.

Oh and I hate how they try and hide the reality of what goes on. The whole Paul/Dominique situation was hidden from the episodes so that casual fans would form certain opinions and the same goes for the Frankie/Cody/Victoria thing. Eh, Big Brother is so shit.

But I agree with all your points! :)

Definitely:
Fewer twists (in recent seasons they have become excessive, seemed rigged, and/or been downright stupid)
More diverse casting (we don't need 14 attractive 20-somethings and 2-3 "others")
No mixed returnee/newbie seasons (they have literally all sucked, and the returnees have huge advantages due to their experience playing the game, production making sure they don't go too early, and viewers recognizing them and wanting them to do well)
Get rid of scripted DRs (probably the MAIN reason I've stopped watching BB these past few years.  It's insulting that CBS is feeding such shitty content to the fans)

Tommeh208 YES!!! These past couple seasons there's been such an issue with people just playing to "get to jury" or basically playing for someone else to win

I didn't consider Christmas and paul a showmance but I agree with going back to the basic Big brother. Canada really has them beat

I agree

I know this is a twist but they could do where 4 older girls 4 older boys 4 younger woman 4 you see boys. They basically done that in the recent cbbuk

I agree except if they casted 20 people, there would be even more floaters than there are now
