Marathon or Half-Marathon? HELP!

Apr 30, 2012 by Libertarian
So I've been planning on running the annual Detroit Turkey Trot in November, a 10,000m race (6.2 miles). Then my uncle, who is kind of out of shape, ok, very out of shape, tells me he is going to run the Detroit International Half Marathon (13.1 miles) and that he already signed up and paid the $90 to register. So I'm like, well if hes doing that, I might as well do that too.

But now I'm starting to think that if I'm going to go to this event, pay all that money, I might as well do the full marathon (because I'll look like a little girl wearing a half-marathon finishers medal). I would be much more proud of myself in the end with the full marathon... if I finished. I know I can walk away from the half marathon with a medal, but I'm not so sure about the full marathon, and I'd hate to leave empty handed.

Which one do you guys think I should sign up for???

Oh btw, I have little to no running experience, but I am in good physical condition.

Oh. I'd say you can probably do a marathon.

I'm not sure.

When I was like... 15 I ran a 6.2 mile race and was fine but now that I'm older (18) I struggle more and hate running. I'm in good physical condition but I'm more of a sprinter. So I think a marathon takes a lot of training, but since it's in November, you've got time.

IF you are in shape... I say train for the marathon.
Bc once u hit that certain point it is just repeating the motion so I dont think it would matter.
So go for the full marathon :)

I see people whose legs just give out near the end of the marathon and they cant finish... I'd hate for that to be me.
