I was looking at a Dailymail post saying that Terry Crews wants to get together with the Wayans bros to make a second White Chicks. I fucking love the movie and have always thought it was hilarious, but so many people on the post were calling “RACISM!!!” Comparing the black male depiction of white women to be a double standard and essentially racist like Blackface.
This is absolutely RIDICULOUS
Anyone who thinks this needs to realize that the Blackface rendition is solely a racist one, and always have been. Just because you get parodied by a movie entailing costumed men depicting your race ONE TIME, does not mean you have been subject to a Blackface treament. I’d argue a large part of the reason why Blackface IS so racist has to do with the fact that it was such a widespread depiction of black people with primarily negative context in all of the situations it was put in use. A couple of black men acting as women and parodying them ONE TIME is not racist.
Not to mention the fact that the women that they created from the Wayan’s Brothers were specific in nature, whereas a Blackface is typically the same and has no regard for features of black people other than those that are being derogatized by the depiction - very dark “skin” and big red lips. In White Chicks the point is to try to make them look like the other prissy white girls they have to replace, and they somewhat do, but their grotesque nature is meant to be a running joke with the audience in that the audience knows these two guys look totally ridiculous and not believable at all, but all the characters within the movie can’t tell the difference!
It’s just astounding how many people will call foul on this movie and totally take the “Whiteface” out of context and try their damndest to make it seem reverse-racist.
