Final Rankings for Survivor: Samoa

May 30, 2017 by KrisStory
Russell Hantz (2nd) - No one else can be your fav in this season... the season literally circled around him the entire time lol. Obviously deserved the win, but his jury management was ass. Also, THREE IDOLS WITHOUT CLUES?!

Mick (3rd) - Surprised he was the Goat instead of Natalie in the end...he was pretty likable imo but everyone in this game was just a follower of Russell.

"Shambo" (6th) - Lol oh Shambo... you fucking weirdo lol. Hilarious but I hate how she played the game with her heart. HOWEVER, I respect her a lot for voting for Russell in the end!

Natalie (1st) - Officially the worst winner in Survivor history.. she didn't even deserve 2nd lol. Stayed in Russell's shadow all game. Yeah, she played a good social game, under Russell's wing, and that's it. Don't say she's a good winner.

Jaison (5th) - I really liked him early on but then his constant bitching and checking out of the game got really annoying. Such a weak minded person, surprised he was in law school!

Brett (4th) - He was SO IRREL at the beginning of the game, but after the merge he kinda started to become relevant and was obviously a force to be reckoned with at the end. Idk how people can say he was more irrel than Joe in Koah Rong lol.
John (9th) - King of flipping then getting voted out right after LOL. I thought he could've done really well had Russell not been in the game tbh.

Laura (10th) - She dominated the women on her tribe so I respect that. She deserved to return in BvW!

Russell Swan (14th) - He deserved to come back a ton... had he not been med-evac'd in this season I really feel like he had a great shot to make it far. In fact, if he was still in the game he could've kept the alliance of Galu together at merge. Loved the game so much and I respect that.

Marisa (20th) - Only time a first boot will ever be this high on my list... she was so cute and robbed for just being honest with Russell :((((((

Liz (13th) - Had a lot of potential tbh. But was an obv boot.

Monica (7th) - Ehh she was okay for a couple episodes when she actually got an edit. Did she deserve to return for Cambodia though? Nah.

Erik (12th) - Idol in his pocket... way too confident... so many problems, but still kinda interesting to watch.

Dave (8th) - Kinda a creep imo, but at least he kinda tried to strategize.

Ashley (15th) - Having a hard time remembering who you are so sorry you're low lol

Yasmin (16th) - Really annoying and didn't do any work around camp which annoyed me as well. Also, who the fuck wears heels to Survivor? Fucking idiot lmao

Betsy (18th) - Shouldn't have messed with Russell tbh... lol

Mike (19th) - Lmaooooo uhhh how did he pass the medical exam before the game started?

Kelly (11th) - Who??? Literally, who??? She did not get but like 2 confessionals all season it felt like... When she came up for her jury questions I thought to myself, what do I even know about this girl? And then I remembered she didn't get an edit whatsoever lol.

Ben (17th) - Fucking asshole, that's all I have to say. You make the South look so bad...

Final thoughts on the season:
It was literally the Russell show that was probably made this way to get everyone ready for him on Heroes vs. Villains. But regardless, the editing was so bad and the winner was even worse from a strategic standpoint. However it was overall an OKAY season.

Ranking - 5.5

imagine thinking russell hantz is good and that natalie white didnt deserve to win when she sweeped up all those jury votes

Lol russell was awful. The point of the game is to get the jury to give you a million dollars so it does matter how you treat people. Youd never hand a million dollars to someone who treated you like shit.

hi you do know just because a story circles around a character doesnt mean youre automatically supposed to like them/view them as the best? yes this is your opinion but that logic doesnt make sense
Sent by bowling4fun,May 30, 2017
I respect Russell being first cuz although he's a terrible person he's like the only one who got any airtime, which is why I stopped watching!

He is an asshole, yeah, but he was fun to watch regardless... also from a strategic standpoint he was obviously deserving to win the game, but no one liked him. Natalie sucks because her story arc is literally just of her following russell blindly... other winners who win because of their social game at least get some sense of gameplay shown, whereas her only gameplay shown at any point in time was talking to Russell! She's a really shitty winner and if y'all think otherwise then there's a problem in the way you watch the show here.

Oh no I hear you 100%

I see why Russell would be anyone's #1 cuz he's the only one with any edit whatsoever

He personally is one of my least favorite *human beings* ever (mostly because of his Twitter, his gameplay isnt helping that at all) but yeah I get you

Laura is probably my favorite but I couldn't even watch that season Idek who is good or not

krisstory "Obviously deserved the win, but his jury management was ass"

so you admit that russell handled the jury, the only means of actually WINNING the game, was ass?
yet he deserves to win?
and you admit that natalie wasnt shown and then use the same 15 confessionals over the course of 39 days to assume she only ever talked to russell?

"Obviously deserved the win, but his jury management was ass"

"but no one liked him"

neither of those things were caused entirely by russells (many times unnecessary) actions though i agree the way he played definitely warranted a jury to vote for him!
Sent by splozojames50,May 30, 2017
splozojames50 you seem to be getting unnecessarily butthurt by the fact that I am saying that Russell deserved to win from a strategic standpoint. If Natalie did anything warranting a win besides being likable, it would've been shown lol. Like... tell me why, besides a social game and because the jury voted her, Natalie deserved to win that game lol
Sent by KrisStory,May 30, 2017
krisstory where in the rules does it say the person who made the best moves should win? No where. What it says is you get to the end and have to get the jury to vote for you. Nobody is saying Russell didnt control Samoa but the jury can vote on whatever basis they want.
Sent by Piddu,May 30, 2017
And yes Russell should have won from a strategic standpoint and Natalie should win on a social standpoint. Too bad they dont have rules for how a jury should vote. The point is get to the end and get the jury to vote you. If making big moves gets the jury vote cool but its not mandatory
Sent by Piddu,May 30, 2017
My lord I never once said that it is in the rules of the jury to vote for who played the best game lol. The only thing I said was that he was obviously the deserving winner but his jury management was ass, which means I'm implying from a strategic standpoint he deserved it.

I understand how it works piddu you don't have to explain it to me lol. Like my god I've watched 20 seasons of survivor I understand lmao.
Sent by KrisStory,May 30, 2017
krisstory i am now butthurt, its more awe that there are still people who think russell played a semblance of a non-horrendous game in either of his seasons in this day and age. natalie may have not played a flashy game but WHERE in the rules of survivor does it state that blindsides, backstabbing, and "big moves" are what is SUPPOSED to be rewarded by the jury? nowhere.

Natalie was able to correctly identify russell as a good person to take to the end, did so and won. the edit may not have portrayed it well but it was calculated and it may have not been entertaining for many (partially due to her personality, partially because of the editing) but she knew what she had to do for the win and did so. i dont know how in the world you can argue someone who lost the jury vote aka the SOLE method of actually WINNING the game should have won. he literally proved (twice) that he plays a game designed to lose
Sent by splozojames50,May 30, 2017
splozojames50 but even in their jury speeches people talked about how she just rode the coattails of Russell... literally the only reason she won was because she was sitting next to Russell.

He played a very manipulative, smart, canniving game, that was ruthless and not one that could win. BUT he was supreme in strategy compared to the others.

and also, in this day in age where strategy seems to be trumping all other things when it comes to the editing, all the gamebots, Tony winning while playing a similar game to Russell, you can make the argument that Russell could have won Survivor with that same exact strategy if it was 2014 and beyond.
Sent by KrisStory,May 30, 2017
krisstory the difference with tony and russell is that tony wasnt an absolute dick to every single person on the jury. you keep admitting russell played badly/not to win "ruthless and not one that could win" so then how is it "smart" if the way he played gave him 0 chance to actually WIN. is winning the game not the end goal?

and you are correct there is a difference in this day and age and back in season 19. however if a player is smart enough they can IDENTIFY who they can vote off and will vote on the jury based on "big moves" (the spencers/chris/neal etc) and who will value loyalty (the debbies). just like natalie was able to identify that social connections were important when it came to actually WINNING samoa.

however that is a skill that russell completely lacks because he does not play to the jury he just treats (and goes out of his way to do so as well) everyone like utter shit and expects them to give him the money. which once again goes back to tony because he did not play in that manner and did have connections on the jury unlike russell.
Sent by splozojames50,May 30, 2017
Yeah he's a total dick and that's why he lost, but the fact that he was a total dick and still made it to the end in the front seat was spectacular. He didn't play a bad game, the only part of his game that was bad was the fact that he was a total asshole which caused him to lose. From a game play standpoint he did deserve to win because he did "build a resume" as they say it now. If Russell wasn't a total dick to everyone then he would've won 100% no doubt. BUT he was. @splozojames

"the only part of his game that was bad was the fact that he was a total asshole which caused him to lose"

what a small minuscule detail that in any other situation would not have affected anyone else that had nothing to do with how he played the game.

every single sentence you type contradicts itself. it would make more sense if you would argue hypothetically that the social game should carry 0 weight but you constantly reference how he was a dick to people which caused him to lose and still go on about how he played a good game i am a bit in awe actually at how your mind works that way. you are the kind of viewer that jeff probst LOVES that validates the "big mewv" and "the game is evolving" narrative when, imo, the game is doing quite the opposite

splozojames50 How did he not play a good game? He was an absolute dick to peopple, and yet, led the way to final 3. That's impressive as fuck. People in the game thought he was a threat to win because of his strategic prowess, but his long-running mistake of being an asshole cost him the game and nothing more.
