Andy "Brink" Brinker and his in-line skating crew--Peter, Jordy, and Gabriella--who call themselves "Soul-Skaters" (which means they skate for the fun of it, and not for the money), clash with a group of sponsored skaters, Team X-Bladz--led by Val--with whom they attend high school in southern California. When Brink discovers his family is in financial trouble, he goes against the wishes of his parents and his friends and joins Team X-Bladz. Brink tries to lead a double life but will be able to pull it off?
Eddie's Million Dollar Cook Off plot summary:
--------------------------------------------------------
A junior high school student, Eddie Ogden (Taylor Ball) is an aspiring baseball player, but what he truly loves is cooking. Although he receives plenty of athletic encouragement from his father, Hank (Mark L. Taylor), who also serves as his team's coach, Eddie can't resist pursuing his culinary skills, and this decision ends up interfering with baseball. Despite the disappointment expressed by his dad and friends, Eddie presses on with his cooking and enters a high-profile competition.
My opinion:
Brink! was honestly one of the coolest DCOM movies. Roller blading may get shit on these days, but back then, that movie made roller blading cool af. The tension between Brink and Val was so intense, and Val is by far one of the best DCOM antagonists. Val ends up cheating and injuring Gabriella on purpose, which was a huge plot twist, and it leads to Brink leaving X-Bladz. The final race between Brink and Val was one of the coolest DCOM scenes.
Eddie's Million Dollar Cook Off took on the task of fighting gender roles. Who says an athletic guy can't like baking??!!?! That didn't stop Eddie, of course, as he put down his baseball mitt, and picked up an oven mitt instead in a cooking competition. The food that Eddie made always got me feeling hungry tbh, and of course, Disney threw in a curveball (pun intended) at the end of the movie and made Eddie lose in the cook-off, and get 2nd place instead of 1st, just to show us that although Eddie didn't get 1st in the competition, he was still a winner by choosing to pursue what he loved to do. Good job Disney!
