the death sentence is good

It should only be used in extreme cases in my opinion, this is indeed an extreme case.

idk to me life imprisonment (or rotting jail for the rest of ur life) is worst than the death punishment cuz then the person has to live with himself and has no hope of ever coming out of jail but if u just kill them its like they got off easy
Sent by Piddu,Apr 16, 2013
lol just no @ the death sentence
there is no good reason for it

no men should play at being gods (deciding whose life is forfeit)
Sent by Ghoul,Apr 16, 2013
In some contexts, I agree with the death sentence.
But not needless torture.

Again, you can never be sure that you killed the right person.
However, it's true for every conviction. Even with a mountain of proof, a person could still be innocent. And that conviction will affect you forever, no matter how small.

I also agree that if someone has a life sentence, it should BE a life sentence, unless stated otherwise. But you never know what each person's destiny is. That person could save someone's life, you never know. XD

Ok, so literally this is the most offensive thing I have ever read on this site. You really need to think before you write things.. my best friend is autistic yet youre using it as if it is a bad thing and out of context, you fucking disrespectful human being.

I agree with death sentence tbh. =L
Kill someone, get killed back.

Yay for death sentence

I completely agree with Piddu on the fact that prison is a horrible place. People get beat, insulted, isolated, and tortured, and that's a far worse punishment than death, and that's something that people that cause these types of things to happen deserve.

Sent by lassidoggy,Apr 16, 2013
It shouldn't be there. If you say it's wrong for a person to murder another person, you shouldn't kill someone after you say it's wrong. An eye for an eye was old testament. Pretty much all of that was done away with in the later half of the Bible. It even says to turn the other cheek. Not an eye for an eye.
Sent by joey96,Apr 16, 2013
i just don't see the point, like if you kill them youre no better than the killer... its not like killing them will solve anything

I 110% believe in the death penalty when it comes to terrorism, serial killers, and people who have previously committed a murder and are convicted of later convicted of another murder (like..if somebody commits a murder, is in jail for years, gets parole and kills again). The whole issue of "oh but we cant kill somebody just because they did, that's so mean and omg so unfair~" is a load of BS. If the person killed people intentionally and had it all planned out, I have absolutely no sympathy for them. Can you imagine if somebody realized that they could murder numerous people and in return get free meals and shelter daily? If the court was absolutely sure that the person did the crime, and they were unsympathetic and clearly disturbed, they shouldn't get the luxury of life.

I personally have always voted for the death penalty because I believe that people who go out prepared to take the lives of other people forfeit their own right to live. I believe that that death penalty should be used only very rarely, but I believe that no-one should go out certain that no matter how cruel, how vicious, how hideous their murder, they themselves will not suffer the death penalty - Margaret Thatcher
Sent by Jennifer101,Apr 16, 2013
Depends on the crime IMO
I'd rather make them spend their whole life at jail, alone. Imagine that? A life of boredness and loneliness. Perfect punishment imo
Sent by xXandytraicyXx,Apr 17, 2013
I could not have said it better myself jennifer101

and I do not think jail/prison is necessarily a worse punishment piddu

I mean...  There are basketball courts, weight facilities, etc. Some state and federal prisons even allow inmates to hold jobs and positions within the jail to earn privileges and other things. They get a shower and food (whether it is good or not is besides the point, they are getting it) and the same goes for clothing. Of course there are people who beat each other up, kill each other, and rape each other but we cannot guarantee that someone sentenced to life will actually be tortured inside the cell. Maybe it presents a free world in their mind. Sure they are trapped physically, but as long as someone is satisfied mentally then they'll be alright.

I think jennifer101 nailed when she said "I have absolutely no sympathy for them".
Also, when children are involved, I think it opens an entirely new window to look at and I see the death penalty as a reasonable and fair punishment.

What if a 50 year old man murders 27 children ranging from 5 to 12 years old. So we just say, oh well you killed 27 people so here is your life in prison. Hell that guy probably was already in jail if he would kill that many kids. I just think there are times when the death penalty is needed.
Sent by sjsoccer88,Apr 17, 2013
I think that life in prison is actually worse than the death penalty. It's hard to judge though, since no one really knows what death is like.  For all we know, death will be fucking awesome, and we all will have wished that we killed ourselves earlier. :P

"being good isn't going to bring back lives of the innocent"

Killing murderers isn't going to bring back lives of the innocent either.........................

I'm completely against death sentence in any possible circumstance.. We are not savages, there is no point in stooping down to the murderer's level and killing them as well. I think life in prison is the worst punishment someone can get, so I'm all for that. Death is just an easy way out, they don't deserve to get away so easily.

These are the times when I can say I am extremely proud to be a Canadian and live in a country where death sentence has been abolished years ago. We are civilized people, I don't wanna live in a society with barbaric laws. I am looking forward to the day America will follow us and abolish death sentence everywhere in their country.

I'm for it 100%
Sent by porschefan101,Apr 17, 2013
sjsoccer88 I don't believe it is ever needed.
I believe prison is worse enough punishment.
For that particular case, he would most likely end up in solitary confinement, which is most definitely enough punishment I think
Sent by MintCokeify,Apr 17, 2013
People are commenting on 'Prison being the worst punishment', such as Piddu and stoopkid95, but the fact of the matter is none of us (well at least I hope) have been in prison can really say whether it is as bad an experience as people are claiming. You have to remember, that the biggest cases you here about prison are the extreme cases, and that is the case in both directions. Some prisoners have said it was "the worst thing of their lives" while I saw a documentary where prisoners WANTED to get back into prison, as their life in there was much better than the one they'd have outside in the real world. They argued that they didn't have to work, got a decent place to sleep, decent food and entertainment.

Once again however, those are extreme cases, and the likelihood is that for most people, prison is a displeasant experience, but ultimately there is much worse. Just wanted to get the point across about people's ideas being clouded by the media, and that personally I don't feel we can really judge what is the morally right or wrong thing to do unless we directly know about the case, the mental situation of those involved, and about the current judicial system, to make an informed opinion.

I go back and forth. Some days I believe in it, some days I don't. I can see both sides of the argument, though.
Sent by MakeThemDieSlowly,Apr 17, 2013
I believe in it for reasons already covered throughout the comments
Sent by superkevin79,Apr 17, 2013
I agree with what Millzipede said, if there was a guarantee that life in prison for serious offenders would be brutal, like so bad that they would rather be dead then by all means I'd be for that over the death penalty. But at the same time, life is honestly a gift and many people have it taken from them, and if we could deprive a serious criminal of the same thing they deprived others of, why does it make sense to let them live? I just don't understand it. We need to show people that the law is strict and if they are going to commit a serious crime, they won't get away with it. If they know that going in, then its not "savage" or whatever to kill them for breaking the law. Again though, I'm talking about serious cases in which there is no doubt that the person is guilty of the crime. Some criminals are even proud of what they've done and confess and brag about it, like there are sick and twisted people in this world and we'd be better off if they weren't around.
Sent by Jennifer101,Apr 17, 2013
While whoever did this had no right to kill people, nobody else has the right to kill people either. They can be punished by solitary confinement, or any other means, but killing someone is immoral, and nobody has the right to kill another person.

I totally agree with your comment plus what jennifer101 had to add again.
You both have covered what I think of the death penalty so yea.

I do however think there is a problem when people from other states try to way in on cases in other states.

http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/states-and-without-death-penalty

Say for example you have a northeastern state, those people do not have the death penalty so no matter what someone does they cannot be killed due to it.
In the south and other states, there is the death penalty and people can be put to death for their actions. Problems arise when people from each side start telling the other states what should happen. I am glad to live in a state with the death penalty because I do think there are cases where it is needed.

I just cannot fathom how people are ok with letting someone who has murdered 15 kids to just sit in a cell with FOOD, SHELTER, CLOTHES, FRESH AIR, BEDDING, SHOWERS, and in some cases they are allowed to participate in activities. I just don't see how that fits the crime.
Sent by sjsoccer88,Apr 17, 2013
Jennifer101 In my eyes, yes it is absolutely savage to kill them for what they did, no matter what the crime was... An eye for an eye is an old system and it's outdated, we should move on and punish them the right way. I think it's extremely cold to inflict death on someone even in very serious cases.

And to everyone saying that life in prison can be pleasant or w/e... Obviously those who commit very serious crimes like mass murders or other things like that, should be in solitary confinement with very basic needs, and be away from everyone else, and always in their cell. I think that is the worst thing someone can go through.. yes they'd technically still be alive, but they wouldn't be living, they wouldn't be doing anything at all.. Just breathing, eating, sleeping, and pondering about what they did.. for the rest of their life.
Sent by Etienne,Apr 17, 2013
I believe the death penalty is wrong and should fall under the category of cruel and unusual punishment. Even if it is allowed, it is ridiculous that HANGING is still legal in two states. Like you said, if you have the wrong person, another innocent person will be killed. I don't think most people realize how bad prison is. Some would even say it's worse than death. Being cut off from society and forced to live alongside other criminals isn't fun. The whole point of prisons is to adequately punish criminals without having to go to such extremes as killing. And the purpose of punishment itself is to correct the criminal's behavior so they can become a normal member of society. You can't do that with a dead person.
Sent by Qwerty3000,Apr 17, 2013
imo death is an easy way out. like if some1 asked me to pick life in prison or death i would pick death
Sent by Xbac5,Apr 17, 2013
Qwerty3000 you cant just rehabilitate somebody who has no remorse for what they have done...its ridiculous to think its that simple. In smaller cases sure, but people who commit terrorism won't just be like ok...Im so sorry, let me back into society and it wont happen again. Why in the hell would we take the risk when they are clearly messed up enough to do it the first time. I think you're not taking into consideration how morally disturbed the person is to do the crime in the first place. Also many people are mentally unwell and may find friendships with people who did other bad things, or they might be recluses and hate people so much that they enjoy solitary confinement. What sjsoccer88 said was completely right, why would you grant somebody food and shelter and everything else...if they thought it would be enjoyable to kill innocent people. Ill never understand people who think its "cold" to kill somebody who did a MAJOR crime. If its the law, its the law and they know that their actions can be punishable by death but if they go into it unconcerned about the damage they are causing and just do it to hurt others, how is it not humane to kill them? Ill never understand that Etienne
Sent by Jennifer101,Apr 17, 2013
