High Road Album Rankings

Sep 24, 2021 by Jaxon
imageHere we arrive for the final step of this journey... for now! High Road was such a great followup album to Rainbow, like usually when something is released as perfect and outstanding as Rainbow was, typically it fails due to it just paling in comparison... but High Road did that and she was another successful that bitch from the Kesha. Of the seventeen songs I'm ranking... I'd say 1-11 never get the skip on my playlist, 12-14 rarely get a skip, 15-16 it depends on my mood, and 17 is not on my playlist. With that being said lets get to these ranks!

17th: Big Bad Wolf
Honestly, she is just a little bit TOO experimental for me. Like I support her because I will support anything Kesha does, but this one just doesn't meet the mark for me. I don't have too much to say about the song, it's a song. I'm sure it's some peoples cups of tea, she just isn't mine and that is okay.

16th: Resentment
I never fully vibed with this song, it has consistently been last in my ranks since the album was released honestly. Maybe it is just that I personally can not relate to the lyrics through my own experiences? It is an extremely well done song, and I do like it... it can just be a bit of a mood killer at times, and I'm not always in the mood to listen to it.

15th: BFF (feat. Wrabel)
Oh I stanned this song on release, made it a theme song for me and an ex-friend, and now that memory of that friend with this song, she dragged her down the ranks, she really did.  Like the song is really cute, and I think it has really great one liners. I love this song honestly, she just... it isn't Kesha, it isn't me, it's that fake ass bitch who ain't in my life no more.

14th: Raising Hell
Maybe controversial? Idk. Raising Hell is really fun and I enjoy singing along with it... but IMO there are a lot of really fun songs on High Road that I love singing along with that just does it better? There are a ton of really great components to this song that definitely keep it in the A tier category for me (which is insane to think #14 would be ranked A tier... but hey I'm a Kesha stan) and like I said above, I rarely skip this song because she is a great song to have on.

13th: Chasing Thunder
Honestly, this was a last minute switch as I'm writing this blog with my #12. I really love the lyrics in this song, and the overall theming and message it has... but honestly the chorus can be a bit repetitive? The verses really outsell the chorus, and I look forward to them a lot more. If we aren't including the bonus tracks, I think this is honestly a really great song to end the album on. I feel like it has meaning behind it, and it leaves me with a good taste in my mouth to reflect on the experience of High Road.

12th: Potato Song (Cuz I Want To)
I feel like this song is underrated (even by me!)? It is honestly really fun, and it easily stands out among the album as a whole just because it sounds so different than everything else. There is this deeper message in the song hidden by the different instruments and shouty way of singing Kesha has in this one, and for me it wraps together extremely nicely and just works. It isn't my favorite, but she is highly appreciated.

11th: Summer
This song is just really cute in my opinion. I think it is a great bonus track, because I feel like the album works with or without it. Its nothing too special, but it still just works as what it is. I enjoy listening to this song, but she does just miss out on the top 10 and I think that considering how strong the top 10 of this album for me are, its a bit deserved.

10th: Cowboy Blues
Me ranking this as low as it is... it shocks me. I think this song is the best cute, slower, ballad type song the album offers. It is really simple yet fun all at the same time? I loved this song when High Road was released, and she still lives up to this day. The adlibs are extremely fun, I think her vocals sound extremely good on this song. Cowboy Blues just works for me, and I understand if it isn't everyones cup of tea, but for me I think it was a great addition.

9th: Shadow
She is the power ballad of the album, don't get me wrong. Shadow works. I was honestly surprised when I saw her perform, how much Shadow felt right to be performed at the concert compared to all the other High Road songs that didn't make the cut and I initially thought should have. I love this song, I love the way she kinda has this message in a very 'fuck you, I'm Kesha' kind of way.

8th: Father Daughter Dance
This one, this is my most shocking rank for me. The fact I put Father Daughter Dance this high as if I am a woman who didn't grow up with a dad? Like I have 0 relatability to this song... but WOW her vocals pop off and are just extremely stunning in this song, especially in the last chorus. Like... she kinda serves, I can feel the emotion in her voice, and I don't regret putting this as high as I did.

7th: Kinky ft. Ke$ha
If Father Daughter Dance was my #1 most shock placement, I'd say Kinky is my #2. Everything about Kinky works for me. Let's start with the absolute perfection of this title, of it featuring herself. Then we get to the verses? Iconic. The chorus? Iconic and catchy. The feature of Ke$ha? The STAR of the song. However, I can't fucking STAND the 30 second long intro to this song. It was fun the first couple times, but over a year later and I am exhausted by it. I have it memorized of how tf to skip to the actual song where it starts. She can go, but everything else can stay.

6th: Tonight
What a way to open this album. It PERFECTLY meshes her old school and new school sound. We start out with some stellar ass vocals, then we get into some Kesha rap, and the chorus is pure catchiness that is great dance music. Tonight is such a standout and it honestly kills me a little to have it just miss out on the top 5. Like ugh. It honestly hurts :/.

5th: Honey
I mean. Iconic. Everything about her works. I used her in a stars vlog. The versus pop off with some iconic one liners, and the chorus is extremely fun and gets you in the 'fuck you' spirit. Honey serves on all fronts, and it kinda just proves why Kesha continues to make the best diss tracks out there.

4th: Birthday Suit
So, I feel like this being this high might be a bit controversial, but I honestly love everything about this song. I love the Nintendo sounding music, I love the just overall fun and joke vibe this song has to it, I think from start to finish this song works and she definitely has risen over my ranks from the middle to the top over time. She doesn't quite hit that top 3 for me, but she deserves her place here in my ranks.

3rd: My Own Dance
Let me tell you, I was sleeping on My Own Dance. When it was released as a promotional single, I was like well this song is okay. When the album was released in full, so many other songs outshined her for me originally. But wow... as time has passed, I really think this is my most listened to track on the album and it has raised my ranks so much. I regret ever sleeping on this song, because it is so quotable, catchy, and she really is timeless. This song is a great example of why I like to do these ranks compared to my release ranks because man have things changed.

2nd: High Road
'B-I-T-C-H I'm that bitch you love to hate, S-T-R-8 talk that shit straight to my face!'
The title track on this one, she serves yet again. To me, High Road is the better version of Tonight. I debated whether High Road or My Own Dance deserved #2, but ultimately I just had to respect all that High Road is and the absolute serve she represents. To me this is one of those forever Kesha songs that will never ever get old to me and I will forever stan.

1st: Little Bit Of Love
Little Bit Of Love is my everything when it comes to this album. She also raised in the ranks over time, but I loved this song from the second I heard it. I think it meshes in perfectly with this album, and honestly hearing Kesha do an acoustic live version of this song, it was a different experience that really added more to the song for me. It has a great beat, it has great vocals, it has a really great lyrics. I am honored to have this one this high and I completely stan her.

Well friends, thats it until the next album! Hope you enjoyed, I did! <3

that intro really does tank kinky a bit which is a shame bc it totally hits otherwise
Sent by Jengaged,Sep 24, 2021
Jengaged it's kind of insane? Like the song itself is pretty much perfection, but that fucking intro... its kind of hell.

i wish there was a version of kinky without that damn intro
