Episode 2: "Young Love" Part 3
It is only eight in the morning, but Lauren is already fully awake and full of energy. She woke up at seven, made sure she had everything she needed, and made herself breakfast. Not much has changed about her appearance. She is still very small, and has short red hair. She sits on her couch, a book in her hand and a cup of green tea on the end table.
Mrs McCammon: Okay, Lori. Ready to go?
Lauren takes much after her mother in terms of appearance. Mrs McCammon has light red hair and freckles scattered across her face. Practically the only thing Lauren inherited from her father was his height.
Lauren: Yeah, just give me a minute.
Lauren closes her book and puts it in her red knapsack. She takes one last sip of her tea before dumping the rest in the sink. She unplugs her phone charger and puts it in her bag. She grabs her phone and reads the text from Cory. She stares at it for a moment, thinking up a response. Eventually, however, she closes it, and puts her phone in her pocket. She sighs, and heads out the door, bags in hand.
At Cory’s house, he, Billy, and Norah pack the bags into Billy’s car. It is a tight fit- especially considering Lilly practically doubled everyone in bags- but luckily, everything was able to cram into his trunk. Afterwards, they hug and chat waiting for Lilly to be ready. Twenty minutes later, she bursts out of the house.
Lilly: Heyy! Sorry for the wait!
Lilly looks completely different than earlier. Her makeup and straightened hair make her look like a model. Even Norah gets a bit intimidated.
Cory: No worries babe. Guys, this is Lilly. Lilly, this is Billy and Norah.
Norah: Nice to meet you!
Lilly: You too! Oh my God, I love your shirt! Yellow looks so good on you!
Norah: Haha, thanks. I just found the first shirt I could see really-
Billy checks his watch and sees that the time is 8:24.
Billy: Oh shit. We gotta go soon guys. You all ready to party??
Cory: Hell yeah dude.
Billy: Alright! Let’s hit the road then!
Lauren sits in her mother’s car, looking out of the window, deep in thought.
Mrs McCammon: So you ready? A full week on a cruise ship without parents! If I got to do that when I was your age, I would be freaking out with excitement! Mr and Mrs Porter were so generous to pay for this for you!
Lauren: Yeah…
Lauren continues to look out the window. Her mother frowns.
Mrs McCammon: What’s wrong, honey?
Lauren: Nothing…
Mrs McCammon: Oh come on Lori. What is it? A boy?
Lauren: Ew, no!
Mrs McCammon pauses for a moment. When she speaks next, her voice comes out awkwardly.
Mrs McCammon: Well… is it about a girl?
Lauren: Ugh. Mom! Stop being such a homophobe!
Mrs McCammon: I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I promise I’m trying. I’m just not used to things like that. You know I love you know matter who you love.
Lauren sighs.
Lauren: Yeah, mom. I know.
Mrs McCammon: Seriously, sweetie. What’s wrong? You can talk to me.
Lauren: It’s… do you remember Cory?
Mrs McCammon: That boy you went out with a couple years ago?
Lauren: Yeah, him. He’s coming on the trip with us.
Mrs McCammon: Oh, really?
Lauren: Yeah. And it’s just making me feel weird.
Mrs McCammon: Why? Do you still like him?
RAE. You have a choice to make!
