Note to self: do not run a blog game during finals season!! XD But I finally finished all my finals (yay!) and got around to judging the penultimate round of my music blog game, and let me just say, y’all made this SO difficult! I actually loved every song submitted this round, and every contestant really rose to the challenge of the theme.
Here are the results!
1. RiskyBusinessxoxo - I Want It That Way by Backstreet Boys (8.5); Tempo by Lizzo ft. Missy Elliott (7.5) - 16/20
I Want It That Way is just pure late 90s boy band excellence (and I know the karaoke round was so long ago, but I have to add that this is such a great karaoke song too!). I’ve also always thought Tempo was super underrated. I love Missy Elliott's feature and that FLUTE! This song also brings back major memories for me because it was a big hit at every college party I've attended. rip to parties and in-person school :(
2. Becksta20 - December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night) by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons (8); Uptown Girl by Billy Joel (6.5) - 14.5/20
These were both super strong choices! I’m not sure whether this was why you chose them or not, but I’ve always thought these songs sound pretty similar (in fact, I’m almost certain I’ve put them both on a playlist together for that very reason). They definitely have similar, upbeat vibes. And although Uptown Girl is not my favorite song of his, Billy Joel has been tragically missing from the game thus far, so I’m happy to see him make an appearance here!
3. joshgillespie - Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield (7); Before He Cheats by Carrie Underwood (6) - 13/20
Unwritten will always have a special place in my heart, since there was a time I considered it my favorite song! I'm very jealous that you share a birth year with it. It was a bit of a throwback for me since I haven’t gone out of my way to listen to it in so long, but I’m glad I did for this game, and I’ll have to add it to some of my newer playlists! I'm going to keep the same ranking as before for your second song to keep it consistent, but as you know I do love this song. Carrie Underwood has better songs imo, but she is the current queen of the country-women-hating-men trend.
Unfortunately, we must say good-bye to joshgillespie this round. Narrowing down contestants these last few rounds has been SO tough, but the next round is also the last round! I’m so excited to judge your final entries and crown a winner at last.
