i'm now working 37 hrs a week. and my company is slowly reverting back to it's original ways. i felt like they made a lot of positive changes, but now since they're losing money so they're going backwards.
we have 17 cashier lanes. 6 self check out machines. out of the 17 lanes only every other lane is supposed to be open. that was the ORIGINAL plan. but now they want 'all lanes open'. Our hours have been 7am-8pm for like a month or so now, but starting today it's going to be 7-10. our normal hours are 7-11.
Now they're doing a tax free event this whole week basically to get more people to come in and do shopping. However the tax free is only on Clothing, Housewares items & like cosmetics/personal cleaning stuff. It's not even on everything but they advertise as 'tax free' so it gets people to wanna go.
they are putting more people in the store at a time, which makes a bigger check out lineup so they start putting more customers per lane to keep the line moving, even if the customers before them arent finished bagging.
Everyday is slowly feeling more and more like a struggle mentally. I see the Best and the Worst in people, more so than a normal day in retail. Obviously i'm grateful i even have a job rn and an income, since so many people don't have that and are struggling. but sooner or later it's kinda like...is it worth it?
I'm getting paid, and its a raise from what i normally get paid. That's really the only positive thing i'm getting from work. I can't get close to or hug my mom and that's been hard on me since she means the world to me. I'm mentally & emotionally exhausted everyday after work. My depression has been the worst it's been in years. and there really is no end in sight.
I'm here complaining while other people have it so much harder than me. Like anyone financially struggling, having sick family members, health workers ect. but is just a rough time.
