Patrick's Song Contest - Round 8 RESULTS

Dec 12, 2020 by GrrrImABear
Welcome to the results blog for Round 8 of Patrick's Song Contest! This round, you were tasked with finding an international hit that never charted in the US, and we had plenty of great submissions! Let's start this off by recognizing our SAFE submissions, in submission order. Please step forward when I call your name.

purplebb4 - Kylie Minogue - "Spinning Around"
tbrown_47 - Anitta - "Ritmo Perfeito"
FromAWindow - Los Ángeles Azules feat. Natalia Lafourcade- "Nunca Es Suficiente"

These were all strong submissions and have moved you along into the Top 8!

Let's look at our top 3 this week!

Heavenlee - Fred De Palma feat. Ana Mena - "Una volta ancora"

Honestly, this song really had no business going as hard as it did, but it did that. Both of these vocalists are extremely strong, and the beat/instrumental are really good, and this was just catchy. This is a song I'm going to remember tomorrow. Very well done!

Insanity - BLACKPINK - "불장난 (PLAYING WITH FIRE)"

Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of K-Pop in general, but the vocalists in this specific performance (especially the first two) were really good, and this song really was a bop. I think this was a really solid track to hit this round, and you followed up your win with another really strong song.

J2999 - Becky Hill - "Better Off Without You"

I was pleasantly surprised at how few songs in English were submitted. I think the ones not in English really stood out more in this specific category, however, the beat and vocals were really so strong in this submission that I couldn't ignore it. They forced this song to stand out, and I really enjoyed it. Well done!

The winner of this round is...

Congratulations, #Heavenlee! You've earned your second win with another very strong performance! #Insanity and #J2999, you're both safe and can step to the back of the stage.

Let's move on to our bottom 3 submissions...

Marwane - Saad Lamjarred - "LM3ALLEM"

I definitely understand why this song charted as well as it did - it's catchy and the singer has an extremely strong voice! The video is fun, and damn, did I say it's catchy? My only critique is that this song has a breakdown section that just isn't very good - and not only does it happen once, but it happens twice. Once I could forgive, but the second was unforgivable! JK, it's not that serious, but this song was still good, just not "amazing", and this week, unfortunately, that's enough to get you down here.

ILoveLarry - Stromae - "Alors on Danse"

Errr... So this song... Okay, so I really appreciated the fact that a French song was chosen because I feel like that would be outside a lot of people's comfort zones, but this was... interesting? I guess I have two main issues with this song - one being the lack of energy in the singer's delivery, and the second being that "saxophone" that plays during the chorus. Is it a saxophone? Not a kazoo? I seriously have no idea, but it plays in approximately 57% of the song and plays 1 note most of the time, and it just kind of becomes a drone that hurts the song. This isn't the best.

Kevin0621 - Stray Kids - "Back Door"

So, as I said in Insanity's critiques, in general, I'm not a huge fan of K-Pop, and this one didn't stick the landing for me. I thought the choreography and editing of the video were really fun and interesting, but this isn't a video competition. It's not tragically bad, but it's just not something I would ever really wanna listen to again..

The person going home this week is...

#ILoveLarry

I'm really sorry that it has to be you this round, because round after round, you've submitted outside the box songs that have been solid. Your journey started bumpy, but you picked it up, but this round was unfortunately enough to get you sent home. Thank you so much for your participation! #Marwane and #Kevin0621, you two are safe and in the Top 8!

Second blog coming momentarily, thank you for your patience!
