It's been a few weeks since my last cover, but I've been working and attending several auditions for colleges across the state, so I've been super busy.
A lot of the events happening today reminded me of the point in my life of when I was suffering through a lot of depression and I had a lot of really dark thoughts and was overall just at a really low point in my life.
This song has always meant a lot to me and it was a song that during that time I just connected to a lot emotionally and will probably always be really important to me.
As far as the vocals and piano goes, I'm always open to critiques and any feedback and responses you may have. I'm no Amy Lee, but I hope you still enjoy my cover of Evanescence's "My Immortal".
I'll give critiques only because you requested them! Especially if you are auditioning for schools. I won't waste your time with telling you what was good, so I'll focus on what could use some work. First and foremost, the phrasing. Plan where you are going to take your breaths, because taking an audible breath always conveys some kind of emotion. Think about how you would speak the lyrics and convey that meaning through your phrasing. Your vibrato feels a little forced, and I think it is because you are choosing to use the hardest vowels. For example: all of meeeeeee, try lifting your soft palate and make the "ee" sound through an "ah" vowel if you understand what I mean by that! As for the piano, since you weren't confident in it and you know only the chords and I imagine not much music theory beyond that, I would stick to hiring accompanists or using instrumentals for any auditions (though I feel it's weird if they don't provide one for you). Really lovely voice though! grrrimabear
I don’t do pop music in auditions but opera, arias, art songs, etc which I sing much differently from the pop stuff which is still new to me :) but thank you for your response, I have a lot of work to do in bringing in the techniques learned in the other style into over here without it sounding like I’m trying to sing opera if that makes sense haha
