Gay etiquette question

When a potential FB says he's HIV-, are you supposed to take his word on it or is he expected to prove it by producing a test result

...why would someone lie and say they have HIV if they don’t? The opposite is a lot more likely, that someone who’s HIV won’t disclose their status... So if someone says they’re HIV, I would just believe them.

Oh ok. Well generally I think you can trust people, but you can’t trust everyone, there’s always liars - or people who have HIV and simply don’t know they have it. So if you want absolute proof to be sure, ask them. I’ve been exclusive and he wanted to make sure I was clean so I went and did STD testing, and when I told him the results he just believed me and took me at my word and didn’t ask me to see the results. I would’ve showed him had he asked. It depends on the person I guess

I mean there's nothing wrong with asking for proof/testing, just say you're super paranoid about that sort of stuff. I feel like people in relationships usually get tested together so i dont see why a friend with benefits can't do the same, especially if you're going to be having unprotected sex
