is GTA online and GTA 5 separate games?

I wanna play GTA Online on the ps4 but have no desire playing GTA5 single player mode. Will purchasing GTA 5 disc have online mode, or do I have to purchase GTA Online separately? Do i need to complete single player mode before playing online?

And do i need playstation plus to play online?

online comes with the regular game. but you do need to complete the first mission in order to unlock online mode. and yes you need playstation plus

If you get the GTA 5 disc you don't have to play single player. It's a good campaign though.
