I'm doing a project and the article is on what gender can walk the farthest distance giving the same amount of time and under controlled conditions.
Would the independant variable be the gender of the subjects?
If the dependant variable is the distance walked?
independant variable: variable that gets manipulated or changed
Dependant variable: Variable that gets measured.

the independent variable is the 'x' of the equation that models the experiment
so if it's *same amount of time* altered by *gender* = *distance*, then yes, you're right
