Darkness falls as the tributes find themselves in a dark forest. It's time to settle in for the night. But no one knows for sure who will be prowling, and who is truly safe.
XCHARLIEX walks next to TRYPHENA, xcharliex carrying his first-aid kit. The two of them are district partners and thus feel obligated to work with each other... for now. But as xcharliex considers Tryphena, he starts seeing her as nothing but a liability. Getting attached to someone is the last thing you want in a game like this, as all but one will end up dying regardless. And so xcharliex realizes that he just needs to rip the band-aid off. He swings his first-aid kit as hard as he can at Tryphena, but she notices, and dodges fast... But not quite fast enough. The kit hits her in the shoulder, jarring her, and she turns and runs from xcharliex as fast as she can, just barely managing to get away. xcharliex doesn't feel the need to pursue.
As they look for somewhere to sleep KIMMAL and SURVIVOR run into each other. Both turn and prepare to run, but pause first, and call a brief truce. After a brief discussion, they agree to form an alliance (a rare occurrence in the Hunger Games) called the 8's. They swear they will not hurt each other until they are the final two, and then come what may.
KINDRED wanders alone through the forest, looking for a place to sleep. There aren't many good, concealed options, so she ends up just laying down in a patch of moonlight, hoping that the calm light will shield her from her fear.
GENTLEMANG, JOHNPOPPER, VOILA, DJ and TRYPHENA all have similar ideas when seeking a sleeping place... Each of them, on different trees and different sides of the forest, climbs a sturdy tree with wide branches, and falls asleep in the canopy, curls up under the leaves.
MEXASH, injured as he is, is unable to climb a tree to sleep, and thus, submerges himself in a mud puddle with only his nose and mouth poking out.
CHERITAISDELICIOUS is too awake to sleep. Her thoughts are full of AliBonico, and what she'd done earlier. To cure her fear, guilt and loneliness, cheritaisdelicious wanders around, and notices TRYPHENA sleeping up on a tree branch. cheritaisdelicious watches, conflicted for a few minutes, before climbing the tree, and giving Tryphena a good shove. If cheritaisdelicious wants to stay alive sooner or later, she'll have to kill people. Tryphena falls to her death below.
DARREL, ABROGATED and JESSIE each wander the forest, and each decide that the ground is the only truly safe place to sleep -- if they sleep on a tree, they risk falling, or if they sleep in a corner or something else, they risk being cornered far easier. Each on their own side of the forest, the three of them lay down on the ground with the dark sky above them.
XCHARLIEX walks to the cornucopia searching to see if there were any supplies that were missed earlier. He is all alone in the dark area. He doesn't manage to find much, but does find a few bottles of water. He then decides to sleep in the corn as he doesn't think anyone else will think to come back on the first night.
After splitting up with KIMMAL, SURVIVOR runs into PI, as well as MAXI who are walking through the trees. Pi is holding Maxi upright, as he struggles to stand after being trampled. The three of them call a truce and suggest that they all sleep in the same area, and keep watch.
BRIGHTONGAL surveys the area, and spots MAXI fast asleep. Remembering how injured Maxi was, Brightongal smiles and approaches, ready to finish him off. However SURVIVOR, who's keeping watch, notices and lunches out with a rock, bruising Brightongal right in the face. Brightongal turns and runs before any more harm can come to her.
The birds are hungry tonight. They sweep the area scanning for prey, and they lock in five individual targets... KINDRED, DARREL, ABROGATED, JESSIE and XCHARLIEX. The birds swoop down and begin picking flesh off the bones of all five of these tributes... Abrogated is the first to wake up, and, weak with exhaustion and pain, he staggers away. On opposite sides of the forest, Kindred and Jessie wake up and scream in pain as their flesh is eaten. They, too, manage to escape, though barely. xcharliex is the next to wake up, and, in a panic, he dumps the entirety of the water he found earlier on the birds, who quickly scatter. xcharliex, too, manages to escape. However... Darrel isn't as lucky. By the time he wakes up, he's too weak with pain to move, and birds from all over the island converge upon him and finish him off.
