2023: Horror Movies Ranked Jan 3, 2024
My annual horror movie is ranking is BACK. A bit late, but it's here. Let me know what you think!! I'm curious about your opinions.

If you don't wanna read my detailed ranking, just scroll down to the end of the blog to see my final ranking.

WARNING: there might be spoilers at certain times.

F (aka My least fave movies):

35. I'll be watching: honestly this was a pretty bad movie. The acting sucked, the twists sucked, the ending was so awful. I was pretty shocked considering Eliza Taylor was the lead and she is a legendary actress.

34. Children of the Corn: I can't even remember much of this movie other than the fact that I disliked nearly everything about it. Bad story, bad acting, bad plot twists. The only other thing that I remember is that my best friend and her sister fell asleep on the couch next to me, while we were watching it...

33. Snow Falls: I'm not gonna say much about it. I disliked the acting and the plot twist. The only reason it's a bit above than the other 2 is because at least the beginning was exciting.

D- (as a horror movie super fan, I found them somewhat watchable, but I think others would probably dislike them)

32. Knock at the Cabin: this movie was so shit, despite all the hype around it. Never watching it again. Ruper Grint is the only reason it's in D- <3

31. Mindcage: I think this movie was not that bad acted, however the plot line was super weak and the plot twists were super weak. If they go for a movie like this, they should have hired LOT better writers.

D (These movies were OK to me but I also didn't really like them much)

30. Leave: I found it hard to place this movie, because at some parts I did enjoy it, however, overall it was not that good of a movie

29. Dark Windows: another quite weak movie, with some amazing scenes that bumped it up to OK category.

28. Infinity Pool: It pains me to put a Mia Goth movie this low after she was my absolute fave actress in 2022... but this movie was a complete mess but not in a good way. I love messy movies, but this one was just wayyy too weird in a bad way.

C (I enjoyed these movies, but they were not my faves) WRITING a ranking for the mid section was SOO difficult because I don't feel that strong about any of them.

27. A Haunting in Venice: as a huge Agatha Christie fan I was excited to watch this movie and honestly obviously the storyline didn't disappoint but I also didn't leave the movies feeling like I just watched an amazingly acted AC movie. It was pretty mediocre.

26. 13 Exorcisms: The opening scene was SOOOO amazing, I absolutely loved every second of it. The first half of the movie was exciting and I couldn't wait to find out what would happen in the end... however I wasn't amazed by how they ended the movie and I felt disappointed.

25. It's a Wonderful Knife: It was a fun movie, but I thought it could have better plot twists. Overall it was fine!

24. Resurrected: I liked it, but at times I felt it was too much in a kinda bad way. In this genre, Missing was definitely the Superior movie.

23.  Three Blind Mice: I loveeeee low budget British horror movies! I feel like this movie had a lot of potential, if it got more money.

22. Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey: I STAND BY THIS. I know people hated on this movie and I do agree the acting was kinda bad. However the storyline was ok. The reason why this movie is this high is because I know it was DIRECTED, WRITTEN and all above FINANCED by ONE person and he put soo much work into it. I do understand the criticism, but I wish took it into consideration that it was ONE person's work mainly. Rhys Frake-Waterfield. <3

21. There's something in the barn: I just watched this movie a few days ago and honestly horror-comedy is not my fave sub-genre in horror, but this movie was fun at times and scary at other times.

20. Cocaine Bear: As I said before, horror-comedy is not my fave and I was worried I'd hate this movie.. but I was pleasantly surprised?!

19. The Conference: it was an interesting, swedish slasher movie. Obviously slasher is my all time fave genre and I was really excited about this movie! I think I watched it on a plane when I was traveling somewhere, but I'm not even sure. Overall, it was an OKAY slasher, however I kinda disliked the killer reveal/ending.

B (good movies)

18. The Sacrifice Game: It reminded me of the Blackcoat's daughter in some ways. I think it was an exciting movie, with a great plot twist. The acting wasn't THAT great though.

17. M3gan: I know some people are gonna kill me for this. I did enjoy M3gan, but it wasn't really my type of movie. I think it was good, but I doubt I'll watch it any time soon again.

16. Killer book club: it was a fun spanish slasher. I get why it was over the top and I really enjoyed the ott acting and the final plot twists.

15. The Nun 2: I enjoyed this movie. I think Taissa Farmiga was an amazing lead, I do think this movie could have been scarier but I also enjoyed the movie overall.

A (great movies)

14. Missing: What a unique movie! I really enjoyed this screenlife movie and honestly if the ending wasn't kinda disappointing, it'd have probably made top 10. Great lead character, great storyline.. questionable final twist.

13. It lives inside: even though the main plotline was kinda basic, it did have some very unique elements in it, mainly because of the involvement of the Indian/Hindi culture.

12. The Boogeyman: I freaking love Sophie Thatcher... I think she's gonna be the next IT girl in Hollywood. I think overall this was a good movie, but the lead actress bumps it up to Great to me.

11. Evil dead rise: Omg.... another evil dead movie? BUT another great sequel?! I loved it!

A+ (awesome movies)

10. Thanksgiving: what a great slasher!!!! I loved the first half of the movie so much. I do think the second half was a bit weaker, but overall it was an awesome slasher with some great characters.

9. Carousel: WHAT A GOOD SLASHER. I really didn't expect to love it as much as I did. The ending was absolutely legendary. The 2 lead actresses were amazing.

8. Totally Killer: Omg I loved this movie. I loved the fact that the lead character traveled back in time. I loved the double killer twist, I love how it was done. I loved the killer reveal. I literally LOOOOOVED everything about this movie.

7. Scream 6: Anyone that knows me knows that Scream is my all time fave Slasher Movie Series. I really loved this installment, even though I was a bit disappointed that they were too scared to kill off some of their lead characters. Gale and Kirby though <3

S (My Fave Movies of the Year)

6. Sick: YESS!! This is such an underrated slasher movie. Literally everything about it was amazing. Amazing leads? Check. Amazing plotline? Check. Great plot twists? Check. This is the example of an amazing slasher movie!

5. Unseen: This was a crazy, over-the-top movie. But it was extremely unique. The 2 storylines were so different, yet they managed make it work. I was on the edge of my seat during this WHOLE movie.

4. The Night of the 12th: Everything about this movie was so realistic, it was the opposite of Unseen. Every single second of this movie was BELIEVABLE. I remember being amazed at the movies as to how amazingly acted this movie was. It didn't even feel like I was in the cinema.

3. Saw X: When I first heard that a new Saw movie would come out, I was hesitant. I just couldn't believe I could see another Saw installment as good as the first 3 were and oh boy was I wrong. This movie exceeded ALL my expectations I freaking loved every moment of it.

2. Talk to me: Such a unique and exciting movie. I was amazed as to how unique the lead character, Mia, was. I felt like it was such a well-written, executed and acted movie.

And there's 1 left. Well.. what can I say? I'm kinda insane and if you know that, then you won't be surprised that I put this movie first.

1. Saltburn: It was the masterpiece of 2023. Idc what anyone says, I was so shocked throughout this movie. I felt like it was ABSOLUTELY NUTS. And that's what I want from a movie. I want the movie to shock me. To make me feel absolutely terrified. This was the movie that completely blew my mind in 2023....  it's murder on the dancefloor but you better not kill the groove
