~Old Challenges VS. New Challenges~

3rdJun 17, 2019 by CheapCheep
It's time to settle the debate. Over the last 10 days I've been asking Tengaged which they prefer. Old challenges? Or newer challenges? Over 105 of you responded, and I have the results!

Old Challenges (Numbers, Maze, Endurance, etc.): 43.8%
New Challenges (Find Me, Count Me, Zoo, etc.): 16.2%
It's 50/50 for me: 25.7%
Didn't Play Older Challenges: 14.3%

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Each era of new challenges has had their pros and cons, but it would seem that the older challenges still stand out to users versus their newer counterparts we see on the site today. Does this mean we should go back to the way things were? Well, not necessarily.

While a large portion of users do prefer the older challenges, it should be noted that the older competitions faced tremendous amounts of difficulties. They weren't able to be played through a mobile device, and many were susceptible to cheat engines. Games like Lineballs and Match3 for instance were notorious for being glitched, resulting in low competition scores through a system that no one user had control over.

Similar to the older challenges, newer comps seen today face their own difficulties. Users like Rperduex11 noted that "The new ones don't differ very much from pressing a button or picking something from a crowd. The old ones were all distinct". The newer challenges seen today, while less glitchy and more cheat-proof, do feel samey and stale. All challenges seem to feel one in the same, and it's a concept that users will either love dearly or hate vigorously.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So what can be done to remedy the situation? Well for starters, the website may benefit from keeping a combination of newer and older challenges. By removing the duplicates and modifying challenges that were either glitched or able to be cheated, we can form a more cohesive group of challenges that all players can enjoy. Voters noted that part of the reason they love one group of challenges versus another is because they require a level of skill. It encourages players to keep playing and continue getting better at the competitions. By finding the best challenges from each era, and combining them, we can form a list of incredibly competitive and addictive competitions that test players on all fronts.

While new players might find difficulty going up against the challenge beasts, there's nothing that stopped a user from loading up some of the demo versions of challenges, and allowing them to continue practicing and honing in on their skills. Where are those demos now? Why can't something like this be implemented for the newer challenges? These small add-ons can drive users to push themselves towards new high scores, and entice users to keep getting better at everything from Zoo to Endurance.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nevertheless, I pass the question off to you guys. Should there be a healthy mix of old and new challenges? And what were some of your favorite challenges from each era? Let me know what you think in the comments below! And as always, thank you for tuning in to #10DaysOfTengaged.

best comps grouping would be
WoF/lineballs/Match3/endurance/maze/numbers/new words/zoo/deal

new words > old words because it's what the comp was originally supposed to be before people realized it was more efficient to just spam click all the letters lol

numbers or sum me, could be either way but numbers was more entertaining imo

guitar shouldn't be a comp because it's physically impossible to win with less time if the other person plays it perfect, which 80% of the site can do

I mean I was absolute trash at the old comps, but they were still actually fun to play in my opinion.
