I spent an hour this afternoon tuning in to a virtual panel with these lovely folks and it was not only amazing to do; it was also FREE. They're all absolutely lovely people and I've met most of them, so it was an absolute pleasure being there.
It would have been better, however, had MAGA supporters not been making racist comments directed at Alexander 'Sid' Siddig (who was born in Sudan) and Muslims when Sid was speaking during the panel. I've met Sid virtually and he is an absolutely amazing individual who does not deserve racist CRAP thrown at him.
I loathe racism and I always have and I also think that it's 2020 and we all need to be above considering prejudice an acceptable form of communication. Racism and prejudice/bigotry are disgusting pandemics that ought to be eliminated from society!
Galaxy Con ought to really moderate the chat better so that all the racism is left out of what is supposed to be a pleasant time. If such racism is allowed to go on like it did today, the actors might have second thoughts about wanting to do this sort of an activity in the future. We should all learn to be kinder.
On an end note, if I didn't speak up about this; who would? I feel it was my responsibility to speak up about what I observed simply because it angered me. This post is what "See something? Say something means." I saw disgusting prejudice and I am speaking up against it.
