When you see someone in need, help them

Jul 5, 2021 by Cecilia581
Last night I saw a post on my Facebook, it was essentially a cry for help talking about how they are using drugs and are feeling helpless in life, wanting to commit suicide by an intentional car accident. The post got very little attention besides a couple uncaring 'likes', probably from people who didn't even bother to read. It would have been very easy to just keep scrolling without a second thought like many people did, I'm sure. But instead I messaged him, he was hostile and closed off at first, wanting to end the conversation because it made him uncomfortable. I told him if he changed his mind to reach out, and this morning he did.
Men (esp. straight men) are taught since birth to hold their feelings inside and not have emotions, toxic masculinity is real and it was very difficult for him to admit he needed somebody, I had to be careful with my word choice. They don't have a lot of outlets or people to talk to without seeming "soft" or "weak" to society even though emotions are part of being human. The point is, if you see someone in a similar situation to not scroll past it, because you never know how much more isolation they can take.
