Quirks from Australia #2

‘College sport’ is not a thing. You can join and play sports as part of a ‘uni’ team but we do not have the divisional or sporting leagues like in the US! And basically no one goes to watch it.

I’d love to hear any thoughts you have about the difference in your country! Let me know if you want to be tagged!

So no scholarships for athletes at all? Or is your college free for everyone anyway?

cheritaisdelicious - there are scholarships but they are usually for elite athletes competing at national or international level. But there’s no college football like there is in the States. Uni isn’t free, we can use government funding called HECS which is an interest free loan that gets paid back gradually when you earn more than $52,000.

this is genius. why don't we have something like this in the states? our student loans system is bull haha (you pay it back regardless if you're making money or not, where HECS allows you to actually start your career beforehand)

I think this is good in one way, it seems healthier and a good way for people to enjoy the sport without the competitivness that universities have here. In my opinion it creates maybem. I would much prefer the australian way of doing it :) tag me

Also sports are good for relieving stress. But when u add the competitivness to them it creates hostility and just too much pressure to win
