One Week Post Op

Aug 5, 2018 by BambiBoo6
A couple days late but, meh.

For the most part I feel fine. The percocet still kick my butt when I take them but, luckily I'm down to only having to take them once, maybe twice a day. The rest of the time I can just take advil and it'll keep the pain under control.

I haven't actually been able to see my foot since before the surgery, they have it wrapped up and I'm strictly prohibited from taking it off. But I think I can feel where the incision is and the stitches are really uncomfortable. I really hope they come out soon or I can take this thing off soon because it is a bother.

Bathing is an adventure. As I mentioned, I'm not allowed to take the dressing off, which means I also can't get it wet. My mom and I, with some creative ingenuity set up a way that I can sit in the shower and my foot not get wet. Most of you probably think, oh that's simple, just hang your leg out over the side of the tub. Wrong. My mom's tub used to have sliding glass doors, so where there would normally be a nice flat surface for me to just hang my leg over, is actually tracks from where the doors used to be. But we got it figured out and I can successfully take a shower.

For the first few days, I was walking with just the crutches, but now I can walk around with out them. I tend to over do it some days with the walking around, but that's what the percocet are for. It's also been weird because for so long before the surgery, I was just walking on the side of my foot because I hated wearing the air cast, so now I'm having to walk slowly and make sure I'm not putting the pressure off to the side of my foot. So far, so good, but I do sometimes catch my self trying to go off to the side.

I did fall once. I was at my sisters house with my crutches, and her hard wood floors kind of sweat when it's really humid (that's the best way I can describe it, because I don't know what it's actually called, but my kitchen floor does the same thing. It gets like this thin layer of moisture on the top of it and it makes it really slippery) and my crutch just slid out from under me. I didn't fall to the ground per say, but I did land really hard on my foot. Luckily my mom peeked in the top of the dressing and didn't see and fresh blood so we don't think I popped a stitch, but the day after oh boy I took a few more percocet than normal.

Well that's about it with my experience so far. My first post op appointment is this coming Thursday, and I really hope he takes the stitches out and tells me I can go back to work.

Tl;Dr : After surgery, I'm doing alright. There have been a few mishaps but overall I'm doing good.
