Im so over this cancel culture

1stNov 20, 2020 by BB5lover
Just saw how much backlash Sia and Maddie Ziegler are getting for the new, "Music" movie.

Apparently, Maddie is playing an autistic girl, and now all of the autistic support groups are "cancelling" Sia for not actually casting an autistic person.

I guess my confusion begins with... yes they could have casted an autistic person to play the role, but anyone who even FOLLOWS Sia knew that Maddie would be the star even if the movie was about a completely different topic.

Second, You would think as a minority group who is ALWAYS disregarded (for no apparent reason), it would be great to actually have some representation in Hollywood. When, "Love, Simon" came out and casted a straight Nick Robinson, I wasn't ranting on twitter about how much i hated that they casted him, I was buying tickets so that Hollywood would continue to represent my community on the big screen.

IDK this may just be an annoying rant... I just think its so annoying to cancel people over casting choices.

Like how they gave back clash to the Little Mermaid for casting a black girl, like who the fuck cares she's playing a FICTIONAL character

Cancel culture pisses me off, it makes all progressives look whiny and abrasive

should have gotten an actual autistic girl to dance.

Whats that becky jackson from glee doing and is down syndrome that same as autism because yall use it as insults on this site interchangeably

it's so fucking jarring, the whole point of acting is playing a character that ISN'T you, why oh why do ppl want trans gay disabled etc characters to ONLY be played by those actors
Sent by RedLipstikk,Nov 20, 2020
I think people would've given her criticism regardless of what she would've done, I just think people tend to focus on the negatives instead of the positives which is what I'm genuinely assuming Sia will do

but yea no1 complained about nick robinson cuz he's a pretty white man and he kinda got away with it cuz of that

The only issue is her working with Autism Speaks.

maxi1234 Dead ass people complain on gay twitter all the time about how Love Simon casted Nick Robinson
Sent by BB5lover,Nov 20, 2020
gay twitter complains about everything tho so i dont care about those smelly faggots
Sent by Maxi1234,Nov 20, 2020
i agree it's so fucking annoying LOL

and it's honestly counter productive?? if they're saying ONLY actors who fit the specific characters race/gender/sexuality are allowed to play that character, they are actually LIMITING gay (or any other underrepresented group) in THEIR ability to play any character other than a gay person etc....

unless of course they're massive hypocrites (they are) and think it's ok for a gay actor to play ANY character but a straight actor can't....

How are you gonna literally see real autistic people have a problem with how a non autistic person portrayed autistic people and act like it is some kind of "cancel culture"

also Sia partnered with Autism Speaks which is basically an Autism hate group

That’s not why she got canceled. She got canceled cause when called on it she said she couldn’t find any actual autistic actors, then some actors came out and said she never even tried to reach any of them, and in response Sia said they’re bad actors.

Her dealing with the fallout is what is getting her cancelled

She is being canceled because instead of consulting with actual autistic people or autistic-led support groups for the making of her movie, she worked with Autism Speaks. Autism Speaks is a group that talks about their autistic children as if they are life ruiners who can't do anything for themselves and want to eradicate us. They've released numerous ads about how autistic children will ruin marriages and how autism is awful and how mothers of autistic children want to murder their children. They treat this stuff as if it's NORMAL.
Sent by Finnick,Nov 21, 2020
And not only that, but Autism Speak's logo is a missing puzzle piece which is to represent that we as autistic people are missing something or lacking. We're not broken. We're different and process the world differently. There's nothing missing.

I still don't understand why the LGBTQ+ community thinks gay characters HAVE to be represented by members of the LGBTQ+ community. Creating unnecessary drama. I'm very glad we are living in a time where my community gets represented in many huge TV shows/movies. I could care less who the actors are, as long as they are good at what they do. They are just doing their job. Casting directors pick who they think can play the character the best, that is who I want to see. Regardless if their irl background has anything to do with it.

If anything, straight actors supporting us and showing that same-sex kissing/sex is not a big deal - is something we should appreciate.
