I think it depends on the situation. If both friends are romantically interested in each other and they want to make a go of things, then it is worth considering as a beautiful romantic relationship could be formed. The friendship is there already, so it would be easy to transition to romantic partners.

But, if one or both of the friends see it as a one night stand, then it is a bad idea. It will create awkwardness.
