I am teaching a unit on social media and its effects on youth. We have been reading a lot of articles that talk about the benefits and disadvantages to living in a world with social media. It's been interesting for me too. As I was researching for my lessons, I came across this slide show about the way people want to be perceived in their online life. It's about different avatars people create and use and what they want to convey about themselves. Like the fat kid who dresses as a superhero, or the quadriplegic who doesn't want to be seen as that.
It got me thinking about the avatars on here and what they say about us? Is it just fun to wear fun gifts and designs or do we want people to think of us in a different way? Just something fun to think about!
