cheritaisdelicious - Florence + The Machine - Stand By Me - I think this was a pretty interesting direction to take this week. I wasn't sure if I would love it or not, I'm not like a HUGE F+TM fan so I was a bit worried for your chances, but I think this song overall is pretty good. I like the string sections, and I think the song really started clicking for me as the bridge built up into the final chorus with all the dramatic horns and everything sounding very triumphant. It works surprisingly well as a song that would fit right into a Final Fantasy game tbh??? So yeah, overall this was a pretty good submission, I just think it took a little longer for me to get into.
MichelleObama - Kero Kero Bonito - It's Bugsnax! - I know this is right... it's the way I haven't even played this game and I'm obsessed with it because of this song. This song clicks for me it's kind of EXACTLY my type of pop song (mostly because I love KKB). I think the hook is really catchy and the instrumental is super weird and fun, I like the flute and whatever the fucking drumline is doing I kind of love it, not to mention the outro with the really weird noisy synths. I also love when Sarah sings/talks the bridge really dramatically. Everything kind of just WORKS here and I'm absolutely obsessed, and that's on bugsnax.
tbrown_47 - This wasn't a song I knew coming into the week, but I really appreciate that you sent it anyways. I love these OTT anime ost type songs when it comes to video games that are all triumphant and upbeat. Anyways, this is really fun, I think the synths work well together, and the occasional little beats of harp that kind of transition the song along are super pretty. I also like how there's like a pretty big element of structure here, even if there aren't any lyrics, I still feel like the song is moving along to a big conclusion/ending point. I don't COMPLETELY get like the euphoria of a huge like final chorus but I still like the weird flute-y (i know it's not a flute but i have no idea what it was) part near the end. Overall this was really fun and this made me want to play this game and see who this queen and her bob really are, which is good for you.
TheGoodMan - Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, & Emerald - Gym Leader Battle - This is honestly the most nostalgic song by FAR here. Pokemon Emerald was like THE game I grew up with like that's where I came from I grew up on Route 120 in a suburb right outside of Fortree City. That being SAID, you are REALLY riding on nostalgia with the gym leader theme. I LIKE this theme, but I don't totally love it. I do appreciate the horns and how good this sounds despite being compressed into a gameboy, it's not something that like makes me shake in my boots at how good it is. Like there is one kinda crunchy synth line in the back that doesn't work for me, and I wish there was kind of more of an electronic vibe than it being carried moreso by the horns. If you were gonna pick a song from Emerald, I would have probably preferred something like the Littleroot Town music? Or Fortree City? Or Meteor Falls??? I think there were a lot of good choices you could've made, and I don't blame you for sending the gym leader music- it's definitely an iconic choice, I just think there were better ones to make.
KingGeek - SONAMOO - We Are Legendary - IN MY WORLD. Honestly this is kind of a complete banger. They kind of WERE doing what itzy and loona hopped onto (sorta). All the rap parts are kind of a serve, I especially like the second verse with that one girl. I don't know any of the sonamoo girls you'll have to bear with me here. Either way, I'm having a lot of fun with this song because I think it has a pretty solid like through-line but still does quite a few different things, with the rap verses, and the really dramatic singing parts as the chorus builds. I think the only thing I'm not in love with is the instrumental, I would say? I really like it, it's just a little familiar at this point. Either way, this was still a pretty excellent submission and this was kind of my truth in late 2019 when it dropped.
AlexaVonTrayne - K/DA - Villain - yeah... yeah. this is their best song. stan evelynn. I honestly kind of DON'T have much to write here, my thoughts are pretty simple like I love it... my brain just processes dopamine everytime I listen without fail. I think Madison Beer and Kim Petras were good choices for a song like this they both are white girls who want to be edgier than they are and that works really well here. I dunno what else to say I really don't the instrumental is great, the vocals are great, the concept is great... I listen to this song like every day so it was THE choice this week tbh.

TheGoodMan. Sorry queen. I actually do really love the songs you sent (mostly) and I think you were a great competitor throughout this season, we just kind of don't have COMPLETELY aligned tastes and I have a lot of respect for someone who loves music as much as I do even if we don't always agree on what that music we love is. Hugs.
grats top 5. i think i am going to like, end the season next week with a finale extravaganza so be on the lookout for that
