amt week 10 results

Feb 8, 2021 by Absol
So, I wrote this episode backwards and I'm a little lost on how to start it, but it's going to be a guitar-shredding, speaker-booming episode. Who will succeed? Who will do the opposite? Who's guitar strings will snap in half during their live show? It's all on the TENTH results show of Absolita's Music Taste!!!

I'm giving you all critiques this week no matter who you are and I plan to stick with that for the rest of the season. This is the time where you NEED to be on my wavelength. Overall, I think I was impressed by most of these songs, which is good. Even when the theme is intentionally difficult, you guys can still appeal to me.

tbrown_47 - Queens Of The Stone Age - Keep Your Eyes Peeled - Funny story, I actually did this critique last even though it's listed first. This one took me two listens to really think about, but the more I listen the more I like. That bassline is so hot, it's very spooky and reverb-y and I wish I gave off the energy that this does, I really do. A good bassline really is the way to my heart. I think it kind of builds up even more with the warped, creaky guitars that really add to the horror vibe. So overall the sound is great, I think the vocals fit with the song very well but they definitely wouldn't click in a different song for me. The last point I wanna make is about the song concept - I think it's another cool concept that I didn't understand and had to google lul. I think the idea of having a really dark, corrupted worldview to the point where you're just so negative that like a blue sky looks hellish to you and all that... it's very cute. I like her. Good submission. :3

KingGeek - Yves Tumor - Gospel For A New Century - Not sure if you KNEW this was gonna be a hit with me going in, but I am a big Yves Tumor fan. I kinda would have loved like a Noid or a 911 that would have really clicked with me but those are less rock-y than this is, so I get it. I do. That being said, this was a banger when it came out but I never got into the album itself, this and Kerosene! were the songs that stuck with me for the most part. I love the bass, I love the horn samples, I love the absolute chaos as the song builds for it to just END. That trick of noise into complete silence always gets me. I think overall this song is done well, I like most of the lyrics and I think you had another good week.

AlexaVonTrayne - Dreamcatcher - What - WHAT WHAT WHAT. This was kind of the angle I was expecting from you this week, and this is probably one of my favorite singles from Dreamcatcher ever?? Like this EP was on REPEAT for me they switch up their styles so effortlessly... anyways this is great yeah idk what else to say. I love the guitar line it's super edgy but it's not like TOO MUCH? I think that can be my issue with rock sometimes is that it can be too intense in a way that doesn't really click for me (i do like noise in more poppy/experimental music but not as much in rock ((although there was a daughters album that kinda had me bald)) but that's beside the point). Anyways that doesn't apply here. I looooove the hook on this song it's super intense and gives me everything I want from a rock song, whoever hits those notes in the final chorus is my bias now. Good work.

ItsAustin - Evanescence - Call Me When You're Sober - Honestly, maybe the submission I was most conflicted on? I am kinda familiar with Evanescence because duh, I mean my sister Aloportsam would be all over this song. I like this song to an extent? I think the guitar line is pretty sick, and her vocal delivery is a little weird but I still fuck with it. I guess overall it's just not blowing me away. Evanescence kind of has a very specific style of 2000s pop-rock that is more guilty pleasure than "oh let me pick this apart and base my entire personality around it" like I have with a lot of really random indie artist. This wasn't a bad submission, just not really something for me. It seems like a song for f-

TheGoodMan - Wolf Alice - Moaning Lisa Smile - Oh wow going into this I was like wait this is really cute I'm feeling her very indie rock and then the guitars come in like a fucking jackhammer like wow... I actually really like the contrast between the two, and the instrumental break at the end of the song is super fun and fresh, in my opinion. I'm sure I'm talking out of my ass but I don't HEAR stuff like this a lot so when something clicks for me I really take notice. I also like the song concept of like scrapping the blues and how negativity can affect the people around you just as much as it affects you, all very nice and I appreciate what you gave me this week. A pleasant surprise from someone who hasn't really went that extra step and won yet.

cheritaisdelicious - Alt-J - Tessellate - This was a weird ass video and a weird ass concept, but knowing me that's kind of my vibe so you definitely went for something in my alley. I think this fits a more chill/indie rock vibe, which usually works for me. I think this song might take me a bit to click, but I actually do like the SOUND of it for the most part (not that it should be a shock but yeah). I appreciate that you avoided a super traditional rock instrumental, I think the most rock thing about this is the guitar line, but it's very subdued. The piano line is also really dramatic and cool, I feel like it very much adds to the vibe. I don't know what the little pinging sound is, like I can't place it, but I like that little noise as well. I think the instrumental is my favorite part, because I don't really get the lyrics. Is it a song about fucking? Is it a song about love triangles? I don't really know, but I think it's cool either way. Slay.

MichelleObama - White Lies - There Goes Our Love Again - Well, stan whoever the lead dancer is. The song is... alright? Definitely not MY type of rock, which is a bad sign. There's not much for me to pick apart, like I don't click with the guitar line really, it feels a little basic. I will admit I think the synth? line in the end of the song is very pretty that part works very well for me. This song, at least for me, kind of had hits and misses, like the lyrics get a little repetitive by the end but I'm still kinda vibing because I think the sound of the song has kind of morphed into something I like a bit more. I honestly do think we have very different tastes in music taste, I know I flopped your game cuz I didn't have my finger on that pulse really. We should talk about music more tbh I like talking with people who have different tastes from me.

#HowLovely - Janet Jackson - Black Cat - Iconic song from a pop legend that I wasn't... crazy about, really. I will say I think I am not the target demographic like this is pretty basic rock music so I don't think I was ever gonna be in LOVE with this, like these guitars feel a little familiar to me. It's very 80s rock and I appreciate you going for this, but I think you needed a bigger risk here. That being said, I think the vocals here really save it for me, I think she's just got a lot of talent and I would like to congratulate her on that. It's also kind of a catchy hook, as well? Better watch your step!! Overall, I think you missed the mark with the TYPE of rock song you should send, but for what it was, I was left with a good taste in my mouth.

Now, our two safe gals this week are KingGeek and Cheritaisdelicious. I appreciated both of these submissions greatly, but they weren't at the top for me.

As for our winner, however... they WERE at the top. Between AlexaVonTrayne, TheGoodMan, and tbrown_47, it was hard to decide which of these I liked the most, but only one of you can win. That lucky individual is...!

TheGoodMan!!! You're a winner baby. You win an electric guitar and a set of Fender amps to keep your competitors up all night. :3

AlexaVonTrayne, tbrown_47, you had the secret sauce as well this week. Both of you are safe besties.

Now, onto our bottom 3.

#HowLovely, even though I was a bit scared to cross your path, you're safe.

MichelleObama and ItsAustin, you both hit a sour note this week, and I'm afraid one of you must leave the AMT mansion immediately. That girl is....

ItsAustin. Sorry love, Evanescence was NOT the move this week. I still appreciated a lot of your songs and I thought you were an excellent competitor, if that softens the blow. I'm a Justis Bratt stan for life.

MichelleObama, I need you to DIG next week and prove you really have your finger on MY pulse. (not a euphemism)

Next episode maybe today, more likely tomorrow. Jonny Fairplay would be proud of you all for making the final 7.
