amt week 9 results

Feb 4, 2021 by Absol
Welcome to Week 9's results show! I'm realizing this season is kinda taking forever. Good thing time is a social construct. Anyways, this week you were all challenged to send songs that ended faster than you could read mastropola's reflection for his English class, and you all succeeded. (except for the person who didnt send but we'll skip over that for now)

Let's get into judging! 3 safes, 3 tops, 3 bottoms. After this week I will probably just give everyone full critiques?? But I'm kinda recovering from a headache this morning so I'm gonna keep the safe girls to a 10-word maximum again.

TheGoodMan - ROSALÍA - A NINGÚN HOMBRE - i like this i wish there was an instrumental tho

MichelleObama - Grimes, 潘PAN - SCREAM - kinda one of the best off of art angels

#HowLovely - SZA - Anything - i have many thoughts. one of them is, "good song."

--

So, as for the tops and bottoms, I think most of you did pretty well- Some of these songs I wasn't crazy about I guess?? Nothing was offensively bad I just wasn't feeling some of them. But the top 3 is all really good, so let's get into it!!

tbrown_47 - Fana Hues - Slippin - This was super up my alley. I love random ass black women who make R&B music. I really appreciate that she is super irrelevant, too. But more importantly, this song is AMAZING. The bassline is legendary, I love how deep and creepy the entire song sounds. The little like whistle-y sound effects at the beginning definitely add to the moodiness as well. I think the guitar passages throughout the song are a little weird and stilted, but it's in a good way since I fully feel the vibe she's going for. It's kind of crazy how amazing it is despite the simplicity of the entire thing?? It's not like she's doing anything INSANE with her vocals, and she only has like one or two actual lyrics, but I don't think she needed to do a lot to get the mood/concept across. Usually I do appreciate tons of bells and whistles and noise but everything about this is really dark and simple in the BEST way.

KingGeek - Jean Deaux, Yung Baby Tate - Flick! - Yeah... this is obviously a hit. I really love Jean Deaux she makes music for girls like me. I think there are songs I like more off of Watch This, but this is still like, top 5 pretty solidly? And I love a LOT of stuff on there. Anyways that's kind of beside the point- this song specifically is still super fun. I love the weird ass synth and the way both her AND Tate ride this beat is just... I mean it's a talent. It is. I think there's a lot of funny lines here, too, the song about her man gaming but not eliminating her makes me giggle, and the hook is really fun and catchy. The Pikachu line is honestly corny but I don't mind it because I find it really funny that she put it in her song. Also her growly voice <3 so sexy. The YBT verse is really good too, I think the ending line with the face-off/tank top/cakewalk rhyme is really creative and flows really well. I would ask you to stop cheating if we didn't literally talk about what music we've been listening to like every day.

ItsAustin - Baby Goth - I Do - So from the art, I wasn't really expecting like, a trap song? So maybe my expectations are being affected by that impression? But I wasn't in LOVE with this, really? Like I said, nothing was offensively bad this week, and I think the instrumental is pretty cute and some of the melodies she sings are nice, the hook especially. But I guess it's a little like, meh. I don't think anything stood out to me outside of that, the verses weren't super memorable to me, like I didn't find it funny like that Megan song that's also about fucking, I just found it like, kinda cute I guess. Which isn't bad, but it's just not like... showstopping.

AlexaVonTrayne - SOPHIE - Burn Rubber - Well the video gave me a seizure so this seems like pretty classic Sophie to me. I think I'm kinda familiar with this song but it wasn't on like an album so I haven't heard it many times I don't think? Either way, this was really fun and weird and super Sophie, the cutesy vocals, the industrial-hyper-pop-whatever instrumental is great. Also the outro is super weird and different but it's kind of... a fitting ending, I don't know why. I don't have anything else to say other than I'm glad you sent this tbh!!! RIP Sophie. If heaven is real she's up there. =]

cheritaisdelicious - Glass Animals - Melon and the Coconut - I kept going back and forth on how I felt for this song. I think it is kinda up my alley, I could see them being a group I actually got into if I checked out more of their stuff (which I probably will now), but this was like... I dunno. It didn't TOTALLY work for me like a lot of the production choices and vocal melodies are weird and crunchy, I think this song has grown on me a bit but I can tell their music is definitely an acquired taste that I haven't built up to yet. Either way, I think this was fine in a lot of ways - a lot of the lyrics are kind of funny and entertain me, but I think it would just take me a while to get into the weird guitar notes and awkward delivery when it came to the lyrics.

turkeylover - NO SUBMISSION?? - I've lost two friends, and those two losses (tearing up) have put two holes in my heart that could never, ever be repaired. I would never... EVER...EVER... would have gone back on the promise of my friends. Not today, not tomorrow, not for a hundred million dollars. Not for anything. I have one million dollar question for you that I want you to answer to your mother, to your... other people. Was it worth it to you, for a million dollars, to sacrifice your own morals to get you here. Was that worth it to you?

Ok so since someone didn't submit again turkeylover sorry boo you gotta go you're over sis. I love you though I wish I didn't make the rule about not sending = out because you were my winner pick (not really i didn't make predictions but you could have made it very far)

cheritaisdelicious and itsaustin you are safe hugs you guys did ok this week but "just ok" isn't ok with me anymore. you have to be ON YOUR GAME, GIRLS.

Anyways for the tops of this week there WAS a question as to who might come away with the win... oh boy I wonder who it will be!!!

KingGeek, you didn't get mad this week, you just got another light purple HIGH. You're safe.

Between the top two, I really appreciated both of these songs for different reasons, but this week's winner is...

Fana Hues is dope. She’s new to the scene. Slippin was just the intro to the album, so if you liked that, you should definitely stream the rest of it.
