amt week 6 results

Jan 22, 2021 by Absol
Another even-numbered day, another results show in Absolita's Music Taste. Don't think about that too hard, I promise you these are always posted on even-numbered days and I've never missed a day.

I wanna get right into it I don't have any stupid puns to make. As a reminder, you were scored out of a possible 13, 10 based on your song and 3 based on how familiar I was with said song. I think you all did pretty well with taking risks, for that matter. Four of you are safe, four of you are high, four of you are low this week. Here's my 10-word critiques for the safe gals:

tbrown_47 - Denai Moore - Cascades - so sad i already knew this song, i love it.

HowLovely - Dahee - Focus - this was cute, love a low-budget mv

turkeylover - Froglady - Temporary - love this weird bitch... everything but the breakdown was great

Nalia - Kiara Lanier - Permanently - i like the vocals and the layered guitars here

Congrats to the four of you! You all sent very good submissions. Now moving on to the longer critiques for our tops and bottoms.

MichelleObama - Heavy Baile, Valesca Popozuda - Me come e some - Honestly, I really wasn't sure what to expect going into this. Definitely a huge risk, I've never heard of this girl before. I assume Heavy Baile is like some DJ/producer or something. I really like the hook and her voice is a little bit growly and deep and I like women who use their lower register because lots of times it can sound a little sexy. I think this instrumental is kind of low-fi, it reminds me of that one brockhampton song NEW ORLEANS but without as much ear-bleeding. It was very simple and well put-together, but it wasn't like it didn't use that time well it was very catchy and fun and straight to the point. This was a good week for the first lady. Please come to Brazil.

ItsAustin - Justis Bratt - LHPS - I like her she reminds me of Rico Nasty. This was really good I think this was probably the best song out of all of these lyrically, the rhyme scheme and the way she switches up her flows... pure gold. I also love the hook here, I think vocally and lyrically she is making some points. I think my ONE criticism would be that the instrumental is a little weirdly mixed and doesn't stick out, but I think it's so good in every other way that I don't really mind it. Plus that creaky sound would get annoying if it was mixed higher, but it's otherwise a solid trap beat and works very well with what she's doing. Also I'm listening right now and that ending part is so iconic. Overall this was really good, it felt like you took your tastes and sent something I could really get into (which to be fair you HAVE done a lot i think just thematically you missed sometimes. this time you did hit though)

KingGeek - Isabella - Three - WHO IS SHE??? WHO IS THIS GIRL??? WHY DID YOU NOT INTRODUCE ME TO HER SOONER? She's a queen, she's a dream. This production started a little slow but as the song built it really took off, and I mean... those vocals and some of the melodies are just beautiful. When a song is this good it's really hard to describe what I like about it, but it kind of gives me like island-pop-esque vibes and a lot of what she says is not exactly relatable, but it makes the point she's trying to get across. This is really why you entered late because I knew you were gonna be on this level for the whole season (hopefully).

TheGoodMan - Georgia - About Work The Dancefloor - Well, I guess I should start by saying I DID know a bit about this girl and this was one of the songs I knew, so you did lose a point there, but I wasn't mega familiar.  I will say for the most part I like this song, it's super fun and peppy synthpop and it hits pretty right, but it isn't a huge standout to me there's parts that aren't amazing for me I think some of the repetitions don't click for me it's not a super trance-y song like a repetitive R&B or chamberpop song would be. The edited vocals on the hook I'm not crazy about either. Otherwise I do like this for the most part, I just think that this was a pretty solid week so a couple stumbles can land you in the bottom. Slanty face emoji.

cheritaisdelicious - Chet Faker - Gold - This gives me Cheritacore vibes I totally see you eating this up. I'm honestly a bit shocked that I'm not familiar with it considering how many views this has, but I really haven't heard anything of him before. As for me, I wasn't insanely in love. I think the instrumental is kinda cute and I like the hits of bass, but his vocal inflection on the hook isn't really a hit for me. I think it's a little exacerbated mostly because of the vocals I DO like on the verses, I think he does have a really pretty voice but sometimes he just uses it in a way that doesn't click for me. Other than that the song is pretty good, again I do like most of these submissions, it just wasn't my favorite this week.

AlexaVonTrayne - Sayumi Misichige - Loneliness Tokyo - I'm gonna start off with the completely unrelated point that I keep hearing the "Loneliness Tokyo" part as "Darkness Tokyo." With that out of the way, I really love this it's honestly exactly what I like in pop music it's tons of fun all the way through and I think it keeps that energy throughout the entire song without being TOO repetitive or same-y. It kind of reminds me of Perfume in a way, I love the bass and I think the vocal edits are pretty cool, it definitely gives me a 2030 pop vibe. It's all robotic and futuristic, but not uncanny like this type of music can sometimes be. I think the breakdown at the end is really great too. Overall a very Von Tron Bot type submission and one that clicked for me.

mathboy9 - LaFavi, Dinamarca - Rob Somebody - I am like falling asleep at the wheel here. I didn't really love this, uh, I think it felt a little like a pop song that didn't click and didn't change it up enough, kind of the opposite of what Ms. Von did. There's not that many different vocal passages or melodies. I do kind of like the instrumental but even that doesn't change up very much. I dunno, I guess this was just kind of a miss for me. It's weird because I think I was autoplayed to another song by this queen that I liked a lot more. But yeah this kind of goes on for too long without really warranting that length. It was still listenable and I did like it, but it was weaker than a lot of these submissions.

Judi - Imogen Heap - Hide And Seek - For this song, I did have to take a point off I am most certainly familiar with Imogen Heap. I figured you would struggle a little finding something I hadn't heard before, and I do kind of like this song, but I wish there was, well, any instrumental backing. The echoed vocals do add a bit and I love the vocal performance, but to me it feels a little incomplete, and because of that I don't feel like there's a lot of stuff to critique. Either way this was again, not BAD, just not good enough comparatively.

With those out of the way, let's get to this week's winner.

ItsAustin, you had bitches mad, but you made me very entertained. You're safe.

MichelleObama, I don't speak Portuguese, but let me know if I got this right- "este foi um bop." You're safe.

AlexaVonTrayne and KingGeek, only one of you can win. Who will it be? I have no idea. Just kidding. I do know. The winner this week was...

KingGeek!!! This was delicious. Congrats on coming into the competition late and still running laps around the rest of these gals.

AlexaVonTrayne, good work to you as well. Keep up the weeb shit.

Now for our bottom 4. You all sent songs that were good... just not good enough, unfortunately.

Cheritaisdelicious, although this song might have been made of gold, it wasn't exactly 24 carat. Despite this, you're safe. Hugs.

TheGoodMan, I think this was impressive, you just missed when it came to sending something unfamiliar. You're safe as well.

Between Mathboy and Judi, one of you will be leaving and one of you is going to stay. Obviously. :3

Judi, I'm sorry to say this ends your time here in the AMT mansion. I do want to congratulate you, I think for the most part you were a solid competitor and I will always remember that time you sent Demi Lovato and slayed my expectations.

mathboy9 you are safe but STEP IT UP. I know you can do better.

Next episode tomorrow, it should be a doozy! =]
