[double posting these today. i forgot i said i was going to do it even though i literally wrote like 3 of these in advance]

Day 19 (In the sense that the last blog in this series was 19 days ago). Let’s jump into “DEATHFAME,” the most recent project from Detroit rapper Quelle Chris. One of the most unique and astute rappers I’ve ever heard from, he’s back with another slam dunk. The title track Deathfame falls dead center in this album, and everything seems to build out from there- there’s a fun, jangling piano melody where he raps about the balance between his art and his brand, suggesting that death brings its own morbid kind of notability. Feed the Heads is another track I’m into, a moment where QC brings out a braggadocious flair and clowns on rappers who aren’t up to his standards. The instrumental is buzzing, there’s line after line with an expert craft (the most grinding he’s doing is a nug, putting on a beat & watching people freak out, bite me you might need some TUMS) and a hook I always do the ad-libs for. The final track I’ll analyse is The Sky is Blue Because the Sunset is Red, with some lovely piano lines from Chris Keys over introspective verses from Quelle and a couple collaborators (MoRuf & Pink Siifu) who fit the song excellently. I think I love this song, and really the whole album, so much because of the fact that it stares right at the fear we all share- death. Listen to King in Black, So Tired You Can’t Stop Dreaming, and Excuse My Back, too.
